Kiwifruit harvested in Guzhang

Kiwifruit in Madaping Village, Hongshilin Town, Guzhang County is now ripe, and farmers are busy picking kiwifruit.

In recent years, kiwifruit cultivation has become one of the main industries in the village. The planting and sales models have also become large-scale and standardized. “Yellow-flesh kiwifruit has been planted in the village since 2017. The seedlings and steel frames are purchased by the village government and distributed for free. Villagers grow and manage kiwifruit themselves,” said the village secretary of Madaping Village.

At the picking site, villagers perform their own duties. After picking kiwifruit from the orchard and carrying them to the sorting area with baskets, they pick out bad ones, weigh them, and load them onto trucks. This model of unified purchase and sales reduces the cost of villagers as well as the waste and damage rates. At the same time, the harvest season of kiwifruit has also driven employment in the village, as various procedures require a large number of laborers. “Recently, everyone is busy picking kiwifruit, which can help them earn about one or two hundred yuan a day,” said a villager.

There are over 200 mu (about 13.33 hectares) of kiwifruit in Madaping Village, with a yield of more than 1,000 kilograms per mu (about 0.067 hectares) and an annual output of over 200,000 kilograms, increasing the income of villagers by more than 600,000 yuan and driving the economic development of the village. In the future, Madaping Village will continue to develop the kiwifruit industry and improve the quality of kiwifruit cultivation in a bid to make villagers richer and their lives happier.
